  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Turkey Burgers

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste (about 3/4 teaspoon salt)

Bruschetta

  • 2 cups diced tomatoes, seeds and most juice removed
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • 1 clove garlic, grated or minced
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Other Ingredients

  • 2 ounces burrata cheese or fresh mozzarella (optional)
  • Balsamic glaze
  • 4 buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bruschetta: In a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes (with seeds and most juice removed), chopped fresh basil, grated garlic, balsamic vinegar, and extra virgin olive oil. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Toss everything together gently and set aside to marinate until ready to use.
  2. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high. Once hot, clean the grill grates thoroughly and then brush or spray them lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Mix Turkey Burger Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground turkey, chopped fresh basil, balsamic vinegar, dried basil, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Use your hands to mix the ingredients gently, being careful not to overwork the meat which can make the burgers tough.
  4. Form Patties: Divide the turkey mixture evenly and form into 4 uniform patties, about 3/4 inch thick for even grilling.
  5. Grill the Burgers: Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C). In the last couple minutes of cooking, top each burger with a slice of burrata or fresh mozzarella to allow it to melt slightly.
  6. Toast the Buns: While the cheese melts on the burgers, place the buns cut-side down on the grill grates until toasted and lightly browned, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  7. Assemble the Burgers: Place each grilled turkey patty with melted cheese onto a toasted bun. Top generously with the prepared tomato bruschetta and drizzle with balsamic glaze to finish. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Removing seeds and most juice from tomatoes keeps the bruschetta topping fresh without making the buns soggy.
  • If burrata cheese is unavailable, fresh mozzarella is an excellent substitute.
  • Ensure patties are formed gently to avoid dense burgers.
  • Check the internal temperature of the turkey burgers with a meat thermometer for safety.
  • For a spicier kick, increase red pepper flakes or add sliced jalapeños.
  • Balsamic glaze can be store-bought or homemade by reducing balsamic vinegar until syrupy.
