Ingredients
Tofu Balls
- 10 pieces tofu balls or other plant-based meat balls of choice
Soy Garlic Sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Chinese black vinegar or rice vinegar
- 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp room temperature water
- 1/2 tbsp corn starch
For Stir-Frying
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
- 1 scallion, chopped (green and white parts separated)
- 1/2 small shallot or red onion, diced
- 1/2 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, Chinese black vinegar, soy sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce, sugar, water, and corn starch. Mix well to ensure the corn starch is fully dissolved and set aside.
- Heat the Pan: Place a large pan or wok over medium heat and add the neutral oil. Once the oil is hot, add the white parts of the scallion and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Sauté Vegetables: Add the diced shallot or red onion and diced red bell pepper to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the bell pepper becomes tender and the vegetables are softened.
- Add the Sauce: Give the prepared sauce a good stir as the corn starch tends to settle at the bottom. Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the vegetables and let it simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Once it reaches a boil, the sauce will thicken due to the corn starch.
- Cook the Tofu Balls: Add the tofu balls or plant-based meatballs to the pan. Toss them gently in the sauce to coat well and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the tofu balls to absorb the flavors and heat through.
- Finish and Serve: Turn off the heat, sprinkle with the green parts of the scallion, and serve the soy garlic tofu balls hot. Enjoy them with steamed rice, noodles, or inside a wrap for a delicious meal.
Notes
- You can double the sauce ingredients if preparing more than 10 tofu balls or to add extra vegetables.
- Feel free to substitute tofu balls with other plant-based meatballs if preferred.
- Adjust the sweetness or saltiness of the sauce according to your taste by varying the sugar or soy sauce quantities.
- Additional vegetables can be stir-fried along with the bell pepper for a more colorful dish.
