Ingredients
Burger Sauce / Big Mac Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 4 tablespoons pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 ¼ teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Tacos
- 4 flour tortillas, 6 inches in size
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- Salt and pepper, both to taste
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 4 slices American cheese (or your preferred burger cheese)
- 1 small onion, diced
- Dill pickle chips, as desired
- Shredded iceberg lettuce, as desired
Instructions
- Portion the Ground Beef: Divide the 1 pound of lean ground beef into 4 equal portions to prepare individual taco patties.
- Prepare the Tortilla and Meat Layer: Lay one tortilla flat on your workspace and evenly spread one portion of ground beef over its entire surface to cover it completely.
- Season the Beef: Sprinkle salt and pepper generously on top of the ground beef-covered side of the tortilla to season before cooking.
- Heat the Cooking Surface: Place a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and lightly coat it with 1 tablespoon of neutral oil, preparing for cooking.
- Cook the Smash Burger Taco Patty: Carefully place the tortilla with the beef side down onto the hot skillet. Use a spatula to apply slight pressure briefly, flattening the meat to form a thin patty.
- Sear and Flip: Allow the patty to cook for 2 to 3 minutes until a golden-brown crust forms. Flip the taco and immediately top with a slice of American cheese.
- Finish Cooking: Cook for an additional 1 to 3 minutes on the second side, allowing the cheese to melt and the tortilla to crisp slightly, but avoid charring.
- Remove and Repeat: Take the cooked smash taco burger off the heat and repeat the process for the remaining three tortillas and beef portions.
- Assemble the Smash Burger Tacos: Spread the prepared Big Mac-style burger sauce inside each cooked taco, then add shredded iceberg lettuce, diced onions, and dill pickle chips as desired.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the assembled smash burger tacos immediately while warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use a neutral oil like vegetable, canola, or avocado oil for a clean cooking flavor and high smoke point.
- Cooking times may vary based on stove and pan; adjust to achieve a golden-brown crust without overcooking.
- For extra flavor, add a dash of smoked paprika or cayenne pepper to the burger sauce.
- These tacos can be customized with different cheese types or additional toppings like sliced tomatoes or jalapeños.
- Leftover burger sauce keeps well refrigerated for up to one week.
- Ensure not to over-press the patty while cooking to keep it juicy.
