Ingredients
For the Cabbage
- 1 small head Cabbage, cut into thick slices (about ½ inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil, for brushing
For the Meat Mixture
- 1 pound Ground Beef or Turkey or Ground Chicken or plant-based options
- 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 large Egg (optional, for binding)
For Topping (Optional)
- 1 cup Cheese, for sprinkling on top
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the burgers.
- Prepare the Cabbage Slices: Slice a small head of cabbage into thick ½ inch slices. Brush both sides of each slice generously with olive oil to promote roasting and flavor.
- Make the Meat Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef (or turkey, chicken, or plant-based alternative), finely chopped onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly. If using, add the egg to help bind the mixture together.
- Form Patties on Cabbage: Shape the meat mixture into patties that fit on the cabbage slices and place each patty on a cabbage slice, arranging them on a baking sheet.
- Bake the Burgers: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes or until the meat is fully cooked through.
- Optional Cheese Topping: If desired, sprinkle cheese atop each burger in the last few minutes, then switch the oven to broil and broil for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Remove the burgers from the oven and serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if you like.
Notes
- Use any ground protein you prefer: beef, turkey, chicken, or plant-based alternatives work well.
- The egg is optional but helps bind the patties for easier handling.
- For extra flavor, try adding fresh herbs like parsley or thyme into the meat mixture.
- These burgers are a fantastic low-carb, gluten-free option by swapping traditional buns for cabbage.
- If you prefer spicier burgers, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the meat mixture.
