Ingredients
Meat and Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Liquid and Sauce
- 2 cups water, divided
- 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara or tomato-based pasta sauce
Pasta
- 8 ounces dry spaghetti
Serving
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
- Sauté the Ground Beef: Turn the Instant Pot on to the sauté function and heat the olive oil. Add the ground beef, breaking it up into large pieces with a wooden spoon. Season with kosher salt, onion powder, and garlic powder. Cook while stirring and breaking the beef into smaller pieces until it is browned and no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
- Add Water and Sauce: Turn off the sauté mode. Pour in 1/2 cup of water and scrape the bottom of the pot thoroughly to loosen any browned bits. Add the marinara sauce and mix well with the beef.
- Layer the Spaghetti: Break the spaghetti strands in half and lay them evenly in one or two layers over the sauce and beef mixture. Do not stir from this point onwards to prevent the pasta from clumping.
- Add Remaining Water: Rinse the empty marinara jar with the remaining 1 1/2 cups of water by filling it, securing the lid, and shaking gently. Pour this water over the spaghetti, ensuring not to stir.
- Pressure Cook: Seal the Instant Pot lid and set it to cook on high pressure for 8 minutes. It will take approximately 10 to 12 minutes to build pressure before the cooking starts.
- Quick Release and Serve: When the 8 minutes are up, carefully open the pressure release valve to quick release the steam. Open the Instant Pot lid and stir the spaghetti gently into the sauce. Turn off the Instant Pot, remove the inner pot, and serve the spaghetti topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- Do not stir the pasta after layering it in the pot to avoid clumping.
- Breaking spaghetti in half helps it fit better in the Instant Pot and cook evenly.
- Quick releasing the pressure immediately after cooking prevents overcooking the pasta.
- You can substitute ground turkey or plant-based protein for ground beef for a different variation.
- Use low-sodium marinara sauce if you want to reduce sodium content.
