Ingredients
Shrimp and Seasoning
- 1 pound shell-on jumbo shrimp (EZ peel or extra jumbo), thawed if previously frozen
- 1 ½ tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
Garlic Butter Sauce
- 8 tablespoons salted butter
- 1 large head garlic (about 15-20 cloves), minced
For Serving
- 1 cup long-grain rice, cooked according to package instructions
- Lemon wedges
Instructions
- Dry and prepare shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure they sear properly, then set them aside.
- Mix seasoning blend: In a pie dish, whisk together paprika, all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using, to create a flavorful coating mixture.
- Coat the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the pie dish and toss them well in the seasoning mixture until every shrimp is evenly coated with the paprika and flour blend.
- Cook garlic butter: Place a large skillet over low heat and add the butter and minced garlic. Cook gently, stirring frequently, for about 4 minutes to allow the butter to melt and the garlic to infuse the butter without browning.
- Cook the shrimp: Increase heat to medium and add the seasoned shrimp in a single layer to the skillet. Cook for 2 to 4 minutes on one side, until the shrimp’s side touching the pan is no longer translucent. Flip the shrimp and cook for another 2 to 4 minutes until fully cooked and opaque.
- Finish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Spoon the garlic butter sauce over the cooked shrimp. Serve the shrimp alongside two scoops of cooked rice, spooning extra garlic butter over the rice. Garnish with lemon wedges for a fresh, citrusy finish and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Using shell-on shrimp enhances the flavor and helps keep the shrimp juicy during cooking.
- Adjust cayenne pepper quantity or omit depending on your preferred spice level.
- Patting shrimp dry is important to achieve a nice sear and prevent sogginess.
- Cook garlic gently on low heat to avoid burning, which would make it bitter.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor; garlic butter can solidify when cooled.
- Long-grain rice is recommended for its fluffy texture but jasmine rice works well too for a fragrant touch.
