French Dip Sliders are savory mini sandwiches featuring tender roast beef, melted Swiss cheese, and sweet caramelized onions on soft Hawaiian rolls. Served with a flavorful au jus gravy, these sliders are perfect for casual gatherings or game day snacks, combining rich flavors and satisfying textures in every bite.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 sliders

Ingredients

For the Caramelized Onions

  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fresh thyme, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sliders

  • 12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
  • 1 pound deli sliced roast beef
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese

For the Topping and Baking

  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons dried onion soup mix
  • Au jus gravy mix, prepared when serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the sliders.
  2. Caramelize Onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter and add the thinly sliced onions. Cook, stirring frequently, for about 15 minutes until the onions are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and season with minced fresh thyme, salt, and pepper to taste.
  3. Prepare Buns: Using a bread knife, slice the Hawaiian dinner rolls horizontally in half. Place the bottom halves onto the prepared baking sheet evenly.
  4. Assemble Sliders: Layer the deli sliced roast beef evenly over the bottom buns. Add a slice of Swiss cheese on top of the beef, followed by a generous portion of the caramelized onions. Cover each with the top half of the buns.
  5. Make Butter Mixture: In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard. Microwave for about 10 seconds until the butter is just melted, then stir well to combine.
  6. Brush and Season: Evenly brush the butter and mustard mixture over the top of the slider buns. Sprinkle 1 ½ tablespoons of dried onion soup mix evenly over the tops.
  7. Bake: Tent the assembled sliders with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes if you prefer toasted buns.
  8. Serve: Prepare the au jus gravy according to package instructions and serve warm alongside the sliders for dipping.

Notes

  • Refrigerate leftover French dip sliders in a sealed container for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
  • For best flavor, prepare and serve au jus gravy fresh when serving sliders.
  • To reheat, bake sliders covered with foil at 350°F until warmed through to prevent drying out.
  • Using Hawaiian rolls gives a slightly sweet contrast that complements the savory flavors well, but you can substitute with your favorite slider buns.
