These flourless avocado brownies offer a rich, fudgy texture with the health benefits of avocado and no flour, making them a delicious gluten-free dessert. They combine cacao powder, creamy almond butter, and dark chocolate chips for an indulgent, yet nutritious treat that’s perfect for anyone seeking a dairy-free, grain-free, and naturally sweetened brownie option.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 16 brownies

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 small ripe avocado, pit and peel removed
  • ½ cup cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
  • ¼ cup almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips (dairy-free, if needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking dish: Preheat the oven to 325ºF. Grease a 9-inch square baking dish and then line it with parchment paper to keep the paper in place during baking.
  2. Make the batter: In a food processor, combine the avocado, cacao powder, eggs, coconut sugar, almond butter, baking powder, vanilla extract, and sea salt. Process until the mixture is smooth, scraping down the sides as necessary.
  3. Add chocolate chips: Fold the dark chocolate chips into the batter gently, reserving some if you wish to decorate the top.
  4. Fill the baking pan: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and optionally sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top for decoration.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the center is fully set and does not jiggle when the pan is shaken.
  6. Cool the brownies: Remove from oven and allow the brownies to cool completely at room temperature for at least 2 hours, or refrigerate to speed up the cooling process. Do not eat warm to avoid tasting strong avocado flavor.
  7. Serve: Slice the brownies into 16 small squares and serve. Expect a fudgy texture that might stick slightly to the knife.
  8. Store leftovers: Store leftovers on the counter for up to 48 hours or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes

  • Nutrition information is for 1 of 16 brownies and is an estimate only.
  • Using a square metal baking pan will yield more even and faster baking than glass or ceramic; if using glass or ceramic, add about 5 minutes more baking time.
  • If you don’t have a food processor, mash the avocado with a fork until smooth and mix the rest of the ingredients by hand; both methods work well.
