This Easter Dirt Cake Trifle with Peeps is a fun and festive dessert featuring layers of chocolate cake, creamy chocolate pudding, whipped topping, and Oreo cookie crumbs, topped with colorful Marshmallow Peeps for a playful springtime treat perfect for Easter celebrations.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes plus chilling time
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Chocolate Cake

  • 15 oz box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients called for on the package)

Chocolate Pudding Mixture

  • 5 oz box chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 oz tub Cool Whip

Toppings and Decoration

  • 36 Oreo cookies
  • Marshmallow Peeps Bunnies, Easter candy, or sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare the cake pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9×13-inch cake pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Bake the chocolate cake: In a medium bowl, prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package directions. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake as directed on the box. Allow the cake to cool completely before assembling the trifle.
  3. Make the pudding mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and milk until it thickens. Then gently stir in the Cool Whip to create a creamy pudding layer.
  4. Assemble the first layer: Cut one-third of the cooled cake into 1-inch cubes and place them evenly in the bottom of a large trifle bowl. Spoon one-third of the pudding mixture over the cake cubes, spreading it evenly to the edges.
  5. Add Oreo crumbs: Using a food processor, pulse one-third of the Oreos until they form fine crumbs. Sprinkle the crumbs evenly over the pudding layer.
  6. Repeat layering: Repeat the cake cubes, pudding mixture, and Oreo crumbs layering process two more times, finishing with a top layer of Oreo crumbs.
  7. Chill the trifle: Refrigerate the assembled trifle until you’re ready to serve, allowing the flavors to meld.
  8. Decorate for Easter: Before serving, insert wooden skewers into the bottom of the Marshmallow Peeps Bunnies so they stand upright. Arrange them on top of the trifle and add additional Easter candies or sprinkles for decoration.

Notes

  • This Easter Dirt Cake can be prepared in advance. Add the Marshmallow Peeps and other decorations just before serving to keep them fresh.
