Doritos Taco Salad is a flavorful and easy-to-make Tex-Mex inspired dish combining seasoned ground beef, fresh vegetables, black beans, cheddar cheese, and crunchy nacho cheese Doritos, all tossed with your favorite salad dressing for a satisfying and quick meal.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning
  • 3 to 4 Romaine lettuce hearts, rinsed and chopped
  • 1 cup black beans, rinsed
  • 1 large tomato, chopped or sliced cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ cups nacho cheese Doritos, broken into bite-size pieces
  • 1 cup Catalina dressing (or your favorite salad dressing, ranch works well)
  • Fresh cilantro, optional

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef: Brown and crumble the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once browned, drain the excess grease. Add the taco seasoning and the amount of water called for on the seasoning packet. Stir and bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the meat to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the salad base: In a large salad bowl, combine the chopped Romaine lettuce, rinsed black beans, chopped or sliced tomatoes, and shredded cheddar cheese. Add the slightly cooled taco-seasoned ground beef and gently toss everything together to mix.
  3. Chill the salad (optional): You can serve the salad immediately or cover and chill it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to eat. Do not add the Doritos chips until just before serving to keep them crispy.
  4. Add chips and dressing: When ready to serve, add the broken nacho cheese Doritos and your choice of salad dressing to the salad. Toss everything gently to coat the ingredients evenly. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For crunchier chips, always add the Doritos right before serving.
  • You can substitute Catalina dressing with ranch or any preferred salad dressing.
  • Add fresh cilantro to enhance flavor and aroma.
  • Black beans can be replaced with pinto beans if preferred.
  • This salad is perfect for quick meals and can easily be doubled for larger gatherings.
