These homemade Dog Biscotti are a healthy, crunchy treat made with oat flour, banana, peanut butter, and freeze-dried blueberries. Baked twice for the perfect texture, they can be optionally glazed with a carob coating for extra flavor. A safe and delicious snack your furry friend will love!

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: About 20 biscotti pieces

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups oat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 banana
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened creamy peanut butter (ensure no xylitol)
  • 1 teaspoon melted coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup freeze-dried blueberries

Optional Glaze

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened carob chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) to prepare for baking the biscotti.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the oat flour and baking powder, making sure they are well mixed.
  3. Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mash the banana thoroughly using a fork. Add the eggs, unsweetened creamy peanut butter, and melted coconut oil to the mashed banana. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine Dough: Gradually add the oat flour mixture into the wet ingredients bowl. Stir until the ingredients form a cohesive dough.
  5. Add Blueberries: Gently fold in the freeze-dried blueberries to evenly distribute them throughout the dough.
  6. Form Loaves: Divide the dough into two equal parts. Shape each portion into a loaf approximately 1 to 1½ inches tall and 3 inches wide. Place both loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. First Bake: Bake the loaves in the oven for 20 minutes, then remove and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. Slice Loaves: Once cooled, cut each loaf diagonally into strips about 1/2 to 1 inch thick. Lay the slices cut side down on the lined baking sheet.
  9. Second Bake: Return the sliced biscotti to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes to achieve crunchiness. After baking, turn the oven off and let the biscotti cool inside the oven completely to finish drying out.
  10. Prepare Optional Glaze: In a microwave-safe container, combine the unsweetened carob chips and coconut oil. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is melted smooth.
  11. Apply Glaze: Dip, spread, or drizzle the glaze over the cooled biscotti pieces. Place coated biscotti on a wire rack or parchment paper and allow the coating to solidify before serving.

Notes

  • Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs.
  • Ensure all ingredients used are dog-safe, avoiding any added sugars or artificial sweeteners.
  • Store the biscotti in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • Freeze-dried blueberries add natural flavor and nutrients but can be substituted if unavailable.
