Crunchy Taco Cups are a fun and delicious twist on classic tacos, featuring crispy wonton wrappers or tortilla cups filled with savory seasoned beef, melted cheddar cheese, and topped with fresh ingredients like tomatoes, green onions, and sour cream. These easy-to-make taco cups are perfect for parties, game nights, or a quick weeknight dinner.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 12 taco cups

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 12 wonton wrappers or small tortillas

Toppings

  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • ¼ cup jalapeños (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin to prevent sticking and help the taco cups crisp up evenly.
  2. Prepare Taco Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it is fully browned. Drain any excess fat to keep the filling from being greasy. Add the taco seasoning and ¾ cup water, then reduce heat and simmer the mixture until it thickens and the flavors meld together.
  3. Assemble Cups: Gently place a wonton wrapper or small tortilla into each cup of the greased muffin tin, pressing lightly so they form cup shapes that will hold the filling.
  4. Fill & Bake: Spoon the seasoned beef evenly into each taco cup, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Bake the cups in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cups are crispy and the cheese is fully melted and slightly bubbly.
  5. Add Toppings & Serve: Carefully remove the taco cups from the oven and allow them to cool slightly for easy handling. Top each cup with diced tomatoes, green onions, sour cream, jalapeños, and olives as desired. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Make it Spicy: Add extra jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture for extra heat.
  • Vegetarian Option: Substitute the ground beef with black beans or crumbled tofu to make it vegetarian-friendly.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in an oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to maintain crispiness.
