Ingredients
Chicken Marinade
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- ¼ cup teriyaki sauce
- ½ tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
Coleslaw
- 2 cups coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrots)
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp honey
- ½ tbsp sesame oil
Wonton Tacos
- 12 wonton wrappers
- 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
- Vegetable oil, for frying wontons (approx. 1 cup)
Instructions
- Marinate Chicken: Combine thinly sliced chicken breasts with teriyaki sauce, ½ tablespoon sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a bowl. Mix well and let the chicken marinate for 10 minutes to absorb the flavorful seasonings.
- Cook Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is fully cooked through and lightly caramelized, approximately 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare Coleslaw: In a mixing bowl, toss together the coleslaw mix, thinly sliced green onions, rice vinegar, honey, and the remaining ½ tablespoon of sesame oil until well combined. This creates a fresh, tangy, and slightly sweet slaw that complements the chicken and wontons.
- Fry Wonton Wrappers: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Fry each wonton wrapper individually for 20-30 seconds on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Assemble Tacos: Place a crispy wonton shell on a serving plate. Fill each wonton with a portion of cooked chicken and a generous spoonful of the prepared coleslaw. Drizzle with sweet chili sauce to add a spicy-sweet kick.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the assembled tacos with sesame seeds and chopped cilantro for added texture and fresh herbal notes. Serve immediately to maintain the wonton shell’s crispness.
Notes
- Thinly slicing the chicken helps it cook quickly and evenly.
- Be careful not to over-fry wontons to avoid burning; keep an eye on their color.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to keep saltiness balanced.
- For a spicier kick, add a dash of sriracha or chili flakes to the sweet chili sauce.
- Wonton tacos are best served fresh to maintain crisp texture.
